How To Make Your Own Robot
In this post I will go through the process of how to build your own robot, from planning to construction. I will provide links to acquire parts and even teach the basics of programming with Arduino. There is an endless list of options and this is both good and bad, the good thing is there is a robot to fit every budget and level of creativity. The bad thing is with so many options it can be overwhelming to pick one and many people never get started.
The first choice you need to make is what type of robot you want to make and weather you want to use a complete kit or create your own design. In this example I’ll be using my own design. Next you will need to make a parts list, try to keep this list short and build such that you can add and change parts as needed.
For my design I will be building a two wheel design and I will require the following parts.
Drive motors and wheels qty 2
Chassis qty 1
Battery box qty1
Processor Board qty 1
2 axis motor driver 1
Ultra Sonic Sensor qty 1
The first thing that needs to be done is to plan the build either on paper, cad or in your head. I’ll be using copper clad board for my chassis do I need to stage my design and cut it to size. The big question is how will I mount my motor drives to the chassis the obvious solution is to use some aluminum angle. to keep the parts count down I’m going to try soldering small pieces of copper clad to the main board.
